** The pre-teen attitude has come upon us with a vengeance. Six months ago I only thought I had a kid with an attitude…today I know I do. His mouth and sassy/mean comments got a trip to the movies taken away...I’ve learned now mom that you’re serious. Lets hope he remembers tomorrow.

** On Tuesday, the kids and I are going to Texas! Yiippee. People look at me all funny when I get all excited about going to Texas but it isn’t Texas as much as it is our friends there. I lived there for 12 years and even though I’ve been here for four years now, I still have some really great friends there…the pick up right where you left off friendships. I’m very lucky that I’ve made it a priority to get back each summer to keep the connections.

** I’ve been going to bed before the kids. Kinda freaky for me but I guess we’ve entered the older kid stage where they want to stay up and I can’t stay up to save my life. 10:00 and I’m a pumpkin, sad to say. The prince puts the princess to bed at 11:00 and then he enjoys 30 minutes of uninterrupted t.v and heads off to bed himself. He turns all the lights out and everything which is an amazing sign of maturity. Go figure.

** I’ve been pretending to be a stay at home mom and laying by the pool several times a week. I’ve a deal with the monsters that if they leave me alone to work until early afternoon, I’ll take them swimming at the club we belong to. On several occasions I’ve actually sat there and read a book. Wow! Of course on other occasions, I’ve taken the laptop and worked. Not nearly as exciting or relaxing but a person’s got to do what a person’s got to do. I’d love one summer to just not work at all and play completely with the kids…I do envy SAHM’s of older kids in the summer (I never envy a SAHM mom of a preschooler…that is way too much work). We’d be at the beach or the pool every day if I could mange it. Movies, the mall, a theme park here and there…I’d love it. I’d organize crafting afternoons and teach the princess how to sew. And I’d be able to sign them up for those specialty camps that last 2 hours and not worth the driving time right now.

Oh well. Instead I yell at them for answering the phone, remind them constantly to leave me alone because I’m working, let them watch way too much t.v. and bribe them with two hours late in the day at the pool. Life sucks, man and whatcha gonna do.

** Did I mention we’re going to Texas next week? Oh yeah. Well, I’m so excited.
