Seems I can only update a few days in a row and then I disappear into never never land. Well, I only wish I could disappear into never never land. Actually I’m stuck firmly in reality. But that’s been okay lately.
Let’s see, the week was pulling to a close with several things unknown. First off, the prince got a decent feature role in the play he was auditioning for. One of those roles where he is doing a little bit of everything. He was initially disappointed because he hopes to make it to a lead role someday but his competition is stiff. Honestly, he’ll have a great time anyway and this type of a role is busy enough to be fun but not so busy as to take up every waking hour rehearsing.
And the kid did get Rookie of the Year at the awards banquet for his barbershop group. That was so incredibly cool. And honestly I hadn’t realized how much work he had done until the president of the organization listed it all right before presenting the prince with his award. When identified, it is quite significant: started chorus in mid-August, was accepted as a member within a month (requires an audition), learned and was tape-checked (process where he records a song and it is graded…as in ‘you should have sung an Fsharp on the word out and you sang an F’) for their two performance songs, performed in a competition in early October, learned the standard Barbershop repertoire of songs (Lida Rose, Camptown Races, etc) and tape checked for some of those, did a performance at the moving Vietnam War Memorial, then learned 10 christmas songs, did the Christmas performance and did a performance at a local mall. Oh, and he didn’t miss a rehearsal.
So I guess, yeah, he’s done a lot. Who knew? I suppose I should have since I’m here but it didn’t seem like so much until it was all announced. And I don’t give much stock to learning the songs but it really is quite a bit because he is learning the harmony (tenor) so apparently it is a bit tricky. Since I’m musically challenged I would know but this is what I’ve been told.
We were so proud of him and he was positively glowing. I don’t think he even realized how much work he’d done but he did comment how nice it felt to get recognized for something he loved doing. And those men, they just love him. They are the kindest group of men (and their wives) … husband even commented on how nice everyone is.

On Saturday night the prince and I went to see Big Fish. I really liked it. Such a nice story and done really well. Go see it.
