Yesterday afternoon I get a call from the kids’ school. Seems the prince and this other boy were in an actual fight. Of course, since this other kid is about a foot taller than the prince and weighs about double the prince’s weight, I’d say it wasn’t much of a fight but rather a beating. Of course the prince threw the first punch as it were (by throwing a milk carton at the kid) so he didn’t elicit much sympathy from the school even though he was kneed in the back, scratched enough to bleed on the neck, punched in the head and thrown on the floor.
This had been brewing for some time and as my husband said, it really is amazing he has made it all the way to 6th grade without getting into a fight (he’s got a hot personality). But that is mostly a testament to the schools we’ve had him in all along (very small).
The best part of the conversation was when he was telling me what the principal said to them. She finished up her lecture with something along the lines of ‘you don’t have to be friends but you can’t call each other names and you can’t resort to violence. You just need to ignore each other.’ I looked at the prince and said isn’t that what I’ve been telling you since school started? And he replies with “yeah, but it had more impact when Mrs. B said it.”
Well, yeah.

In cheerier news, my presents that need to be mailed are mailed. The Christmas cards are half way out (the ones that don’t get the letter are out…the letter ones may take through next week. The tree is up with lights and the kids and I will get it decorated tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow I’ve left the entire a.m. for house cleaning and decorating and thus this place will be presentable for in-laws who come tomorrow night. The only thing left to buy is the prince’s main present, stocking stuffers for the kids and two gifts for husband’s family once I know whose name we have. Oh, and a picture frame for my grandma. The mocha for the teachers and misc others is made, in tins and the tins are in cute bags. I’ve just got to get the labels on them and they can go out next week as we see people.
And best of all, I’m mostly caught up with work.
Go me.
So tomorrow after housecleaning I’m having lunch with wine and friends (or is it friends and wine?). Guilt free.
